LEGO responds to request for “more girls” in official magazine

The LEGO Group has responded to a four-year-old girl’s request for “more girls” in the official LEGO magazine.

On Wednesday, actor Samuel West’s daughter wrote a letter to the LEGO Group, reading: “To Lego Magazine people, can you put some more girls in your magazine please?”

Van Helsing and Notting Hill actor West tweeted that his daughter had noticed only one of the 29 speaking characters in a recent issue was female.

It didn’t take long for the LEGO Group to respond to the youngster’s request. West physically posted the letter on behalf of his daughter, but while it was in the hands of the postal system, the LEGO social media team responded: “We think your daughter rocks! We look forward to receiving her letter. Like you, we believe LEGO play is for everyone & that our magazines need to reflect that.

“We’ll review future editions to make sure this is the case.”

West thanked the company for the “generous response”, though of course, the proof will be in the pudding – no doubt, West’s daughter will be keeping a close eye on future editions of the magazine to see if her letter has paid off.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
