New Orleans has more single female homeowners than, well, anywhere

If you think New Orleans attracts a slew of financially capable, independent women, you’re right—and LendingTree, a loan marketplace, crunched data from the U.S. Census Bureau to back you up.

According to the report, women own 27 percent of homes in New Orleans. By comparison, single men clock in at a relatively measly 15 percent homeowner rate—which means women own nearly twice as many homes as men do in the Crescent City.

That rate also means that New Orleans has more single female homeowners than any other metropolitan area in the country.

We’re followed by Miami, which clocks in with 26.81 percent of its homes owned by single women, and Birmingham, Alabama, where 25.44 percent of homes are owned by single women.

Nationwide, the trend skews toward female home ownership: single women own around 22 percent of homes, while single men own fewer than 13 percent.

Perhaps it’s time to update the lyrics to “New Orleans Ladies”:
