Oscars 2020: Natalie Portman dons cape with names of snubbed female directors

Natalie Portman honored the female directors who were snubbed at the 2020 Oscars by having their last names embroidered on the cape she wore to Sunday’s show.

“I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year, subtle way,” she told a group of reporters on the red carpet.

The full list of names on Portman’s cape were Lorene Scafaria (“Hustlers”), Lulu Wang (“The Farewell”), Greta Gerwig (“Little Women”), Mati Diop (“Atlantics”), Marianne Heller (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”), Melina Matsoukas (“Queen & Slim”), Alma Har’el (“Honey Boy”) and Céline Sciamma (“Portrait of a Lady on Fire”).

Portman’s black-and-gold embroidered dress was designed by Dior. Portman, 38, posed on the carpet with husband Benjamin Millepied.

The actress is set to present an award at the show.
