White, middle-class men are still seen as the "ideal" political candidates, according to a survey of male and female MPs and women activists. "A century on from the first woman standing for Parliament, our research shows that, for many, the ideal candidate is still a white, able-bodied man," said Fawcett Society chief Sam Smethers.
