Dunnigan was a reporter for the Associated Negro Press, which distributed her stories to more than 100 African-American newspapers across the U.S. By 1947, Dunnigan became the first accredited reporter to cover presidential press conferences. “She opened up the door for blacks to report on Congress, the White House and the presidents,” Morrow said. Dunnigan reported on four different presidents: Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson.
