“I was asked why I’m doing a show on the CW about a Black girl learning that she’s actually a superhero. Because I want there to be a show about a Black girl learning that she’s actually a superhero. And then being a great one.”

This cultural reckoning brought on by the pandemic is just one of the reasons that now is the perfect moment to drop the term “working mother” from our lexicon. It’s not only a redundancy, but the stamp of “working” or “staying at home” are binaries that don’t fit today’s economic and cultural moment.

Every child should have a well-stocked bookshelf, because books are everything. But along with the Cat in the Hat, Llama Llama, and Elephant and Piggie titles, a good children's book collection should include some nonfiction... particularly picture book biographies of women. Because it's never too early to introduce our kids to the important people who helped shape our world.

Ideas about gender identity are shifting, and as this societal perception of gender begins to evolve, industries are changing right along with them, and the trend of gender-neutral clothing is a tangible sign of that.
