We've become accustomed to the likes of Iskra Lawrence, Ashley Graham and Blake Lively discussing the need to rid the world of unrealistic beauty ideals, but we definitely didn't think we'd be looking to receive body-confidence advice from Prince William.

During a surprise visit to London school, Burlington Danes Academy, to address students at a midday assembly yesterday, the father-of-(almost)-three spoke about the mental health issues currently affecting teenagers.

'I worry for you girls,' the royal said, discussing the challenges of body image on social media.

'The touched-up pictures are not real,' he said. 'Don't try to re-create them or think that's what you've got to aim for. There's a lot of fakeness online so don't worry about that.'

Explaining the damaging effect of the Internet as a father to two children, he said he empathised with students when it came to the pressures to keep up with social media trends.

'That's a lot. You must be aware of that, it's a lot of pressure. There's so many things going on. You're going to be bamboozled,' he added.

'Don't spend all day online. Seriously, don't. For your mental health, get outside, come away from the screen. By all means, be on a screen, but don't be on it all day because it will only bring you into another world. It's important that you balance the time.'

The Duke of Cambridge concluded his speech by warning students from communicating solely on the Internet or via social media platforms.

'Unless you punctuate it correctly — I'm not the best at punctuation and I'm not the grammar police, either — you can read it in 100 different ways,' he said.

Last night, William met award winners who had turned their lives around with the help of Centrepoint - a charity dedicated to helping homeless young people.
