A new solar training program will be working to train grandmothers and single mothers to work as community solar engineers. The project was designed to address the fact that women are much less able to leave their villages due to poverty and family links while also empowering women in Tanzania's male-dominated society by offering them decently paid work.

“We should be treating this as something of the highest national priority, not just in terms of arresting people but in terms of making sure another woman doesn’t go through it,” said Sara Hossain, a Bangladeshi lawyer and a human rights activist. “Nusrat’s case was very extreme. But why do these cases keep on happening? One of the reasons is the kind of impunity that exists, so people can get away [with these crimes],” she added.

Women only hosted or co-hosted about a third of the top 100 podcasts on the Apple podcast chart in 2017, according to WNYC Studios, a New York-based podcast creator and distributor. Werk It, a women's podcast festival run by WNYC Studios, wants women-hosted podcasts to make up half of the top 100 podcasts within the next five years.
