Biden’s plan would undoubtedly be an improvement on what exists now for most Americans: nothing. It ought to be seen as a win for gender equity—paid parental leave keeps women in the workforce—and a boon for the health and welfare of parents and newborns.

If you had to pick one solution to prioritize over everything else governments and companies could do to bring women back to the workforce, what would it be?

Black women are twice as likely as white women to suffer from infertility, but tend to seek medical help for infertility later than white ones. This is in some measure connected with distrust of the medical field and hesitancy in discussing fertility issues, but a major factor, too, is the belief that fertility issues don’t affect Black women due to the pernicious myth of Black hyper-fertility.

Women are benefitting from the gig economy’s low barrier of entry, and the flexibility and autonomy it offers. But several barriers for women remain at an individual, societal and institutional level, including access to capital, access to technology and skills, harmful societal norms, and knowledge of online opportunities.

In a realistic ‘best-in-region’ scenario in which the progress of each country in Africa matches the country in the region that has shown most progress toward gender parity, the continent could add $316 billion or 10% to GDP in the period to 2025.”

Several African venture funds in recent months are turning their focus to female-founded startups, while existing funds and accelerator programs are bringing more women into their fold.

In a thread on Twitter, the New York-based e-commerce company, which built its business on an inclusive, body-positive image, provided examples of videos it says TikTok removed. They predominately include curvy and non-white women.

Many people have started asking how being locked in the spaces of domesticity might have impacted women, who often face abuse within those spaces. But there is little discourse on the impact these spaces have had on LGBTQIA individuals, many of whose lives are subject to increased supervision and regulation.

While terms deriding men’s behavior have been gaining traction in the west for years, observers say China is now coining its own phrases, thanks in part to comedians like Yang Li, who coined the phrase “How can he be so average, yet so full of confidence?” during one of her stand up routines. The phrase has swiftly been taken up by women desperate to describe their experiences of men with outsized egos who are oblivious to the privileges associated with their gender.

In 2019, some Uyghur women who fled the Xinjiang region told accounts of having been forced to have unwanted sterilizations. The Chinese government has denied suppressing births, and said that it is educating Uyghur women about family planning and offering state-subsidized contraceptive measures that individuals can take voluntarily.

Perhaps the Girl Scouts—with their stylish, practical, and partially unisex new uniforms and inclusive, but all-female environment—should drop the “girl” entirely and embrace a gender-neutral program and culture.
